FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean

Youth Leadership Program Regional Workshop

Santiago (Chile), 06/05/2024 - 10/05/2024

Background

The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub and the FAO Regional Office of Latin America and the Caribbean are organizing a regional workshop under the project "Building the Next Generation of Food Systems Leadership in Developing Countries" funded by the Government of Germany.

This pioneering initiative aims to empower the next generation of leaders who will drive the transformative change needed to build more efficient, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient agrifood systems. This short-term capacity-building workshop aims to connect promising early-career innovators, practitioners, scientists, and activists from low- and middle-income countries to bridge the gap between policy advocacy and grassroots action and catalyze collaborative work on solutions for food systems transformation.

The five-day co-creative workshop comprise three components: Learn, Get Inspired, and Act, and the young professionals will learn:

  1. How to effectively consider knowledge-based solutions based on transdisciplinarity for credible policy design of food systems solutions.
  2. Why the promotion of cross-sectoral knowledge and systems thinking catalyzes long-term and more effective action for food systems transformation.
  3. Tools and methods available to accelerate the uptake of their leadership skills based on enhanced self-knowledge and growing confidence to tap into local, regional and global networks to increase their impact for collective gains.
