The initiative, supported by the FAO and the cooperation of Spain, Mexico, and the European Union, is driven by over one hundred representatives from governments, parliaments, and academia in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. 

In the report, the organizations warn that the cost of not addressing this issue could be almost six times greater than the cost of working to improve access to healthy diets in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative Mario Lubetkin participated in the United Nations' "Review of Progress in the Transformation of Food Systems" event to evaluate countries' progress in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
