The 44th Business Session and 82nd APHCA Executive Committee of The Animal Production & Health Commission for Asia & the Pacific (APHCA)

Background

The establishment of the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia and the Pacific (APHCA) within the framework of the FAO was initiated by Asian nations at the 5^th FAO Regional Conference on Animal Production in 1974. The Commission became operational in December 1975 and today has 18 member countries. It supports sustainable improvement in rural livestock agricultural production through information sharing, disease prevention and control, diversification of farm production, value-chain development, and other related initiatives. APHCA works on the principle of collective self-reliance and mutual assistance among developing countries.

 

Each year, APHCA supports a nominated APHCA member country to host APHCA Executive Committee (ExCom) and APHCA Business meeting to review annual APHCA activities. This November 2023, upon the suggestion of the Chair (India) of the APHCA Executive Committee, and the generosity and willingness of the Office of Animal Husbandry Commissioner (AHC)-Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Government of India, and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), the 44th Business Session of APHCA and 82nd APHCA Executive Committee meeting will be held back-to-back with the 33rd WOAH Conference of Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific in New Delhi from 13-17 November 2023.

Given that many additional countries who are not currently APHCA members will be at the venue, APHCA is interested in providing an overview of the Commission to new potential member countries, as well as featuring some of the most relevant technical issues affecting livestock production and value chains in the Asia and Pacific Region.  Therefore, 44th APHCA Business Session- Part I will be focused on raising awareness about APHCA and providing information to new potential member countries.
