This document presents the report of the 2022 ASFA Advisory Board Meeting (ABM), which took place virtually from 12 to 14 September, with a final session on the ASFA business model taking place on 23 November.
Identification and analysis of marine fisheries research - Case studies from selected countries in the Fishery Committee for the Eastern Central Atlantic (CECAF) area of competence

During 2020, the ASFA Secretariat supported the CECAF-PESCAO project by compiling an inventory of marine fisheries research produced in nine countries (Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Spain). A search methodology was agreed with the CECAF project team, with support from the EAF-Nansen Programme to identify relevant marine fisheries research.

Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021, ASFA is now looking to the future and how it can support the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As an international network focused on disseminating the world’s aquatic science, fisheries and aquaculture research, there are many ways in which ASFA can and does contribute to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This document presents the report of the 2021 ASFA Advisory Board Meeting, which took place 13–17 September 2021. Though conducted virtually, the meeting provided a platform for lively discussions with ideas proposed that will benefit ASFA as it continues its transition to an open information network focused on meeting the needs of aquatic science, fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders.

In this issue, we celebrate ASFA’s upcoming 50th Anniversary. ASFA was first published as a monthly printed journal of fisheries and aquaculture abstracts in 1971 and in this issue, we look back over ASFA’s past, as well as looking at some of the plans in store for ASFA’s future, namely OpenASFA, one of the most exciting developments in ASFA’s lifetime.

The 47th bi-annual Meeting of the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) Advisory Board was hosted by the University of Malaysia Terengganu and took place from 22 to 26 September 2019 in Terengganu, Malaysia. This meeting was a key milestone in gearing the ASFA transition towards a new business model, with many changes already proceeding.

Grey literature is often defined as materials such as project reports, conference proceedings or training materials produced outside of commercial publishing. The ASFA Newsletter updates on news and developments of the FAO ASFA Secretarait and the ASFA Partnership more widely. This first issue covers the 2018 ASFA Advisory Board meeting, where a number of important decisions about ASFA were made. Interviews with seven ASFA Partners are also included, who discuss their reasons for being involved in the partnership, how ASFA has benefitted themselves individually and also their institutions, and what their hopes for ASFA's future are.

The Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) Advisory Board has been meeting annually since the beginning of the ASFA service/system in 1970. Besides providing a forum for discussing the ongoing maintenance and the future development of the ASFA system, the Meeting also provides an opportunity for ASFA Partners to report on their accomplishments during the intersessional period.
