A Stronger Europe in the World: Major Challenges for EU Trade Policy

28/01/2021

FAO Brussels Director Rodrigo de Lapuerta took part in the roundtable “A Stronger Europe in the World: Major Challenges for EU Trade Policy,” at the invitation of the American European Community Association (AECA). The event featured the participation of EU Commission Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) Acting Deputy Director-General and Director in charge of The Americas, Agriculture and Food Safety, Rupert Schlegelmilch.

The roundtable also drew senior members of the international business, political, and diplomatic communities.

Following the excellent presentation from Mr. Schegelmich, FAO stressed the need to support agricultural value chains and their farmers in developing countries more than ever and highlighted the role, which the United Nations can play as a neutral partner on policy support and data analysis and gathering.

FAO also lauded the important, ongoing dialogue on cocoa value chains between the EU and several African countries.
