A vision for more resilient rural areas in Europe

The Rural Pact Conference, held in Brussels on 15–16 June, sought to engage participants in designing governance of the Rural Pact and to gather commitments for the achievement of the long-term vision for the EU’s rural areas.

Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels, Raschad Al-Khafaji participated in a panel discussion on the theme of “The local and regional dimension of the Rural Pact”. He informed the gathering of FAO’s mandate and Strategic Framework, as well as its various initiatives and activities geared towards sustainable agricultural development and food security.

Frank Bogovic, Member of the European Parliament and of the European Parliamentary Alliance against Hunger and Malnutrition, spoke about the RUMRA & Smart Villages Intergroup, which promotes integrated development for European territories in all their diversity.

The conference was organized by the European Commission in partnership with the European Committee of the Regions, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Parliament, the Presidency of the European Council and the European Rural Parliament.
