ACP-EU: Joint Parliamentary Assembly Resolution on COVID-19 consequences

12/03/2021

The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) adopted a Resolution calling on the EU and its member states to provide greater support to African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly those with the most vulnerable populations and whose economies and health systems are most precarious.

The Resolution paid special attention to the importance of food systems, citing the essential need to ensure their adequate function and resilience.

Parliamentarians from the EU and the ACP regions both underscored the importance of food security and nutrition, and greater rural and agricultural resilience, accentuated by the COVID-19 crisis. They also acknowledged FAO’s contributions to mitigating related risks by adjusting its humanitarian and resilience programmes.

The Resolution also reiterated the call by Parliamentarians for urgent action for climate adaptation and mitigation, for biodiversity protection and restoration.
