African Diaspora Agrofood Forum – Investment, trade and transformative development

Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels Raschad Al-Khafaji, was invited to speak at the 6th edition of the African Diaspora Agrofood Forum, organized by The Food Bridge and with the support of the City of Brussels.

Al-Khafaji introduced FAO’s mandate, strategic framework and flagship initiatives, with a focus on rural migration and diaspora entrepreneurship. He stressed the importance of facilitating an enabling environment for all relevant stakeholders. Al-Khafaji went on to showcase a project in Uganda, where one of the results was the first ever Uganda Diaspora Agribusiness Award.

Other Forum participants included COLEACP, the African Foundation for Development (AFFORD), The Africa-Europe Diaspora Development Platform (ADEPT), the African Union Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (AU-CIDO) and Belgian development agency Enabel.

This year’s edition of the African Diaspora Agrofood Forum was held in Brussels City Hall, from 21 to 22 October 2022. The theme was Investment, trade and transformative development.

The annual forum is a gathering of African diaspora entrepreneurs, policy-makers and experts in the agrofood sector, focusing on transformative development in Africa.
