Agroecology as a cornerstone of sustainable food systems

The “From Farm to Fork, Sustainable Food Systems and the EU Green Deal” event organized by IPES-Food and the Club of Rome-EU Chapter highlighted the role of agroecology in supporting a shift to sustainable food systems. FAO Senior Agriculture Officer Ronnie Brathwaite stressed the Organization’s role in scaling up agroecology and in assisting Member States with relevant national policies. He also pointed out FAO’s document on the ten elements of agroecology, an analytical tool created by FAO to help countries operationalize agroecology.

Conference participants also included the Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), Wolfgang Burtscher; the Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), Claire Bury, and the Directorate-General for Environment Director for Natural Capital, Humberto Delgado Rosa, among other speakers.
