At the invitation of the European Union Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), FAO Deputy Director of the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment Zitouni Ould Dada presented FAO’s COVID-19 Response and Recovery plan to participants of a virtual session on best climate practices in agriculture, food systems and bioeconomy. He highlighted the 7 key priority areas for the programme, which include the Global Humanitarian Response Plan, Data for Decision-making, economic inclusion and social protection to reduce poverty, trade and food safety standards, boosting smallholder resilience for recovery, preventing the next zoonotic pandemic and food systems transformation. His intervention focused, in particular, on the important role of innovation like blockchain technology, nature-based solutions, and smart agricultural techniques, including the setting up of early warning systems, all of which could be drivers of change towards more sustainable food systems.
