24/11/2020

FAO Senior Statistician Carola Fabi presented the organization’s work on big data at an expert session during the FIT4FOOD2030 final conference. Ms Fabi explained that the FAO Data Lab, part of the FAO Statistics Division, aims to support FAO decision making and bridge gaps between different streams of work around data. She noted, “The FAO Data Lab promotes the use of big data through continuous updates to the FAO Food Loss and Waste (FLW) database by automatically detecting accessible reports and studies which analyze food loss and waste levels across the world, and for different food products throughout all the stages of the food chain.”

FIT4FOOD is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and supports the FOOD2030 policy framework of EU DG Research and Innovation. The project has created the FOOD 2030 Platform to strengthen research and innovation policy coherence, and alignment, in Europe.
