29/09/2022

The European Research and Innovation Days are the European Commission’s annual flagship event, bringing together policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and the public to debate Europe’s innovation agenda and reflect on the role of research and innovation in addressing the various global challenges.

FAO’s Chef Scientist Ismahane Elouafi, participated at a session on “Building sustainable and resilient food systems in times of crises”. She stressed the necessity to address inequalities while transforming agrifood systems and advocated for a bigger role for science while adjusting policies to today’s challenges. Elouafi closed her intervention highlighting the five concrete recommendations FAO proposes for the transformation of agrifood systems. These are diversification in agriculture, consumer behaviour, increasing efficiencies, adressing inequalities and reducing vulnerabilities of and in our agrifood systems.
