FAO talks sustainable agrifood systems and green management with Sony Europe

27/10/2022

FAO Brussels was invited to contribute to an online Webinar SONY Europe organized for its employees to exchange on issues of food security, food loss and waste as well as the global transformation of agrifood systems. More than 240 SONY employees attended the virtual session.

Sony’s recently launched Green Management Plan 2025 aims at accelerating efforts such as the introduction of recycled plastics, the reduction of product power consumption, the elimination of plastic from the packaging of newly-designed small products, and the introduction of renewable energy.

Raschad Al-Khafaji, Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels, introduced the audience to the FAO mandate and its new Strategic Framework based on the 4 Betters: Better production, Better nutrition, Better environment and a Better life for all, leaving no one behind. He also explained the role and mandate of the FAO Liaison Office and the new FAO Strategy for Engagement with the Private Sector.

Jeffrey Brez, FAO Senior Communication Officer, highlighted how Sony’s Food for the Future campaign was supported by FAO’s analyses and statistics and mentioned it as an important example of working together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

FAO has had a fruitful collaboration with SONY by including Peter Rabbit in the Food Heroes campaign launched in 2021 and ahead of World Food Day.
