03/12/2021

Steering Committees of the two flagship projects implemented by FAO and partners in ACP countries were held.

FISH4ACP aims to tackle some of the underlying challenges in building sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in twelve countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). These include low economic performance, limited market access and poor social and environmental sustainability. The project is funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

During the 5th Project Steering Committee Meeting of the FISH4ACP Project FAO Brussels Director Raschad Al-Khafaji praised the project contributions to FAO’s broader goal of transforming agrifood value chains. “The project strengthens access to food and livelihoods to vulnerable populations in the ACP countries, he noted

The ‘Enforcing Environmental Treaties in Africa, Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP MEAs III)” project seeks to enable countries to fulfil Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) obligations. Through the project, UNEP, FAO, the European Commission, the OACPs and regional partners are working together to enhance the capacity of ACP countries in implementing the agreements.

At his intervention during the Steering Committee of the ACP MEAs III project, the FAO Brussels Director highlighted the programme’s strong alignment with FAO’s priority of assisting Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Countries and Small Island Developing States.
