Mark your calendars: European Development Days are coming up in June!

31/05/2021

Organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), the European Development Days (EDDs) are Europe’s leading forum on development. The overall theme for this year’s edition, which will take place online from 15 to 16 June, is “The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future.”

Technical experts and specialists from across FAO will be contributing as organizers, speakers, panellists and participants in a number of important debates and discussions. Together with the UN-REDD Programme, FAO is organizing a high-level panel entitled “Forests are too precious to lose: halting deforestation & enhancing biodiversity,” where participants will hold a dynamic debate around key challenges and opportunities to turn the tide on deforestation and transform food systems. Another session, co-organized with the European Commission, will cover “Geographical Indications – An Opportunity for Biodiversity,” and present two specific cases of close linkages between geographical indications and biodiversity preservation in Africa. And in “Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems,” FAO and others will exchange knowledge on the preservation and value of indigenous food systems for global sustainability and climate change.

FAO will also participate in a session co-organized with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and energypedia, entitled “It’s a match?! Linking Water, Energy and Food with the Private & Finance Sectors,” in which participants will share experiences and recommendations for the future of water-energy-food (WEF) innovations.

FAO’s Sustainable Wildlife Management project, along with others initiated by the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) will be featured at a Global Village stand organized by the OACPS, FAO and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
