New FAO-IOM Toolkit presented: Integrating migration into rural development interventions

26/11/2021

FAO and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) presented the Toolkit for integrating migration into rural development interventions to the European Commission Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) and EU delegations across the globe.

The toolkit provides concise, operational, and user-friendly information and tools to help international cooperation and development actors in integrating migration into rural development interventions. Although there is no one size fits all approach for integrating migration into rural development interventions, the tools can be adapted to various contexts to make development cooperation more coherent and effective by harnessing the development potential of migration and ensuring that any related challenges and/or opportunities are fully assessed.

The presentation was followed by a discussion with the European Commission.

The toolkit was developed by IOM in partnership with FAO. It is part of the EU-funded project[AR(1]  titled “Mainstreaming Migration into International Cooperation and Development (MMICD) implemented by IOM that involves various sectors, such as education, health and urbanization. The project provides systematic guidance on how migration can be integrated into development cooperation sectors in a manner that harnesses the development potential of migration while ensuring that risks and opportunities are fully assessed. The official launch of the toolkit is scheduled for early 2022.
