The FAO elearning Academy: FAO-EU Cooperation to strengthen skills and social advancement

23/02/2022

Achieving development through knowledge acquisition, that is where the FAO elearning Academy plays a central role in the Organization's strategy to provide learning opportunities and multilingual e-learning courses for professionals working in food and nutrition security, social and economic development, and sustainable management of natural resources. The goal is to strengthen the capacity of Members to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The European Union is an important partner of FAO's elearning Academy and has supported and contributed to the design of more than 60% of the multilingual e-learning courses made available to date.  In so doing, it has helped the FAO elearning Academy to support Members and ensure the transfer of know-how, knowledge, skills and competencies through a suite of methodologies. These include e-learning, blended learning programmes, technical webinars, online tutored courses, mobile learning, face-to-face training workshops and university master’s and postgraduate degree programmes.

Over the years, FAO and the EU have teamed up to produce a large number of learning resources. The recent flagship FAO elearning Guide on methodologies and good practices, supported by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, was particularly well received by international audiences.

The FAO elearning Academy has also partnered with the European Union through the EU International Partnerships Academy. Together, both partners benefit from cross-promotion of e-learning resources and webinars.
