The business end of Farm to Fork: Delivering sustainable food systems

01/10/2020

How can companies truly help with this challenge? This was the central question driving discussion at an event hosted by Euractiv, a Brussels media outlet. FAO Director for Food Systems and Food Safety Jamie Morrison joined panelists Claire Bury, Deputy Director-General for the EU Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), Herbert Dorfmann, Member of the European Parliament and the European Parliamentary Alliance against Hunger and Malnutrition, and Silviu Popovici, Vice-President of FoodDrinkEurope, to discuss the role of the private sector in making the European Union’s Farm to Fork Strategy a success. Mr Morrison emphasized the importance of all-encompassing change in our agricultural systems, from greenhouse gas emissions to antimicrobial resistance and food loss and waste, to create a more sustainable food supply chain. “A transformation to a more sustainable food system will require investments all throughout the supply chain”, he noted.
