University of Liège and FAO renew partnership

02/10/2020

The Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels, Rodrigo de Lapuerta and the Rector of the University of Liège, Pierre Wolper, cosigned the new partnership agreement between their two organizations. They first formalized their partnership in 2017.

The University is widely-recognized for its invaluable contributions to scientific research and education in many disciplines linked to FAO’s mandate. In the first three years of their partnership, the University of Liège and FAO worked jointly across the African continent on zoonotic diseases, the climate change-migration nexus, rural youth, agriculture, sustainable energy, deforestation, pests and diseases, and food security. FAO also provided learning experiences allowing students to work on antimicrobial resistance, forestry management and zoonotic diseases.

FAO actively collaborates with higher education institutions to strengthen knowledge and innovation, enhance capacity, provide evidence-based solutions to policy processes, and share its own experience on the ground with the academic community. Such partnerships contribute significantly to FAO's work to eliminate hunger and malnutrition.
