Blue Transformation gains momentum. FAO Assistant Director-General visits Brussels

10/10/2023

Blue transformation outlines a vision to expand aquatic food systems and increase their contribution to nutritious and affordable healthy diets. Leaving no one behind. This was one of the main messages conveyed to FAO’s partners by Manuel Barange, FAO Assistant Director-General and Director of FAO’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Division during his recent mission to Brussels.

Barange was on a one-day visit to Brussels upon an invitation by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union to intervene at its Working Party for African, Caribbean and Pacific States.
The Session also saw interventions by Cristelle Pratt, Assistant Secretary-General for Environment and Climate Action (ECA) of the Organisation of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) as well as representatives of the EEAS and DG INTPA. In his intervention, Barange particularly emphasized the various projects and programmes that FAO leads in cooperation with ACP States.

As part of his mission, the Assistant Director-General also had bilateral meetings with Charlina Vitcheva, Director-General at the European Commission’s DG MARE, Cristelle Pratt Assistant Secretary-General OACPS and Leonard Mizzi, Head of Unit, Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Fisheries at the European Commission’s DG INTPA.
