FAO Brussels joins Africa Day celebrations and promotes work in the region

25/05/2023

Upon invitation by the African Union (AU) Representation to the EU, FAO Brussels took part in commemorating Africa Day.

The Day was marked with a number of activities, including information sessions and seminars. FAO Brussels intervened during a seminar with the title “Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementation”, presenting the wide range of activities and collaboration between the Organization and African Members. The intervention also highlighted the importance of free trade for food security and agriculture and the need for national trade policies.

Throughout the month of May and on the Africa Day itself FAO Brussels promoted the report “FAO in Africa – Highlights in 2022”. The report, prepared by the FAO Regional Office for Africa, presents a summary of the main priorities, developments and achievements in the region under the FAO Strategic Framework.

Meetings of FAO Brussels Director Raschad Al-Khafaji with the African Union Chair and Ambassador of Comoros in Brussels Mohamed Chatur Badaoui as well as representatives of the European Commission during the month of May, also provided an opportunity to discuss the report, which was welcomed as a strong evidence of FAO’s active role in Africa.
