FAO’s Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities (SFERA) presented at the EU Council COHAFA Working Party

29/05/2024

The Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union invited FAO to present its Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities (SFERA) to the informal meeting of the EU Council Working Party on Humanitarian Aid and Food Aid (COHAFA).

In his presentation, Patrick Jacqueson, FAO Senior Emergency and Rehabilitation Officer, highlighted the achievements realized under the SFERA Anticipatory Action window, underscoring the tangible benefits and successes of proactive measures funded through SFERA, and reinforcing its value and impact in humanitarian contexts.

The Special Fund was established in 2004 to enhance FAO’s capacity to rapidly respond to emergency situations. Through strategic resource partner funding, SFERA provides FAO with the financial means and flexibility to react promptly to humanitarian crises, reducing the time between funding decision and action on the ground.
