Food Systems Stocktaking Moment presentation in Brussels

11/04/2023

Stefanos Fotiou, Director of the UNFSS Coordination Hub briefed the Council’s Working Party for International Food and Agriculture Questions (AGRIFAO) on the upcoming UN Food Systems Stocktaking Moment, taking place from 24 to 26 July, in Rome. This was the second time he briefs the  Members of the Council’s Working Party after his presentation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in November 2022.

Delegates from EU Member States and European Commission representatives highlighted the role of the Coordination Hub in conducting the post-UNFSS process. During the presentation, Fotiou emphasized the importance of a diverse participation from the European Union and its Member to the Stocktaking Moment, including at ministerial-level and by the  National Convenors of the EU Member States.

According to the Director of the Hub, the Stocktaking Moment will be part of a cycle that includes the 2023 UN SDG Summit, the UN Summit of the Future in 2024 and the next UN Food Systems moment in 2025.

The Stocktaking Moment will build on the momentum of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and will create a conducive space for countries to review commitments to action made during the 2021 Summit. It will also be an occasion to share stories of success and early signs of transformation, maintaining the momentum for acceleration and bold action to push the transformation of agrifood systems further.
