Towards National E-agriculture Strategies

The e-Agriculture Community of Practice, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is organizing an online forum on “National E-agriculture Strategy Development”, which will take place from 29 April to 15 may 2015 on e-Agriculture.org.

This online event is part of a joint effort between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with the Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and several other stakeholders to support countries in developing their national e-agriculture strategies and to mainstream ICT in Agriculture. This joint effort includes the development of a “e-agriculture strategy development guide”, a series of global and regional capacity development events and direct technical assistance to countries.

More information on the “e-agriculture strategy guide” and the process can be found on our page dedicated to the subject e-agriculture strategies.

Currently, two country pilots are implemented in Asia region using the methodology and set of tools proposed in the guide to develop a vision, an action plan and an evaluation framework to support the upscale of ICT in agriculture in those countries.

The e-Agriculture Forum, which will involve the participation of subject matter experts, will complement these efforts by providing a concrete and experience-based feedback and insights to improve and enrich the guide before its publication.

All inputs collected during the e-Agriculture Forum will be used to create a strong case for e-agriculture strategy development and for providing countries with comprehensive yet pragmatic set of tools that can facilitate good strategy development process ensuring that resulted strategy is realistic and enjoying a strong community buy-in.

All the members of the e-Agriculture Community of Practice are invited and encouraged to participate in the forum.
