Annual meeting of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Europe and Central Asia

Hybrid Event, 27/06/2022 - 30/06/2022

Damages caused by saproxylic (bark and wood boring) beetles have increased significantly in recent decades across Europe and Central Asia. Besides of the problems caused by native bark beetles, the effect of introduced or invasive ambrosia beetles shows an increasing trend as well. With the exception of the last few years, ambrosia beetles were less investigated, however, the increase of their introduction and damage caused to natural or even urban environments highlighted the need for more detailed analyses. Recent research results open new opportunities to manage invasive saproxylic beetles, therefore a meeting and training of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Europe and Central Asia (REUFIS) member country representatives have been initiated to:

  • Address recent achievements in monitoring of saproxylic bark beetle species;
  • Discuss new traps, lure, and methods available;
  • Present local experiences;
  • Discuss better preparedness for a new species’ arrival and a potential future invasions by saproxylic beetles; and
  • Find ways of stronger cooperation.
