Regional Inception Workshop “Lifecycle Management of Pesticides and Disposal of POPs Pesticides in Central Asian countries and Türkiye”

Background
FAO promotes the sustainable intensification of crop production. This approach requires the integration and
harmonization of all appropriate crop production policies and practices aimed at increasing crop productivity.
Projects implemented by FAO keeps the vision of creating “a world free from hunger where food and
agriculture contribute to improving the living standards of all, especially the poorest, in an economically,
socially and environmentally sustainable manner”. Current project in the region will lead to create
sustainable instrument in pesticide management to avoid further accumulation of obsolete pesticides. Project
consists with 4 components and it’s objective is to reduce POPs releases from obsolete pesticide stockpiles
and contaminated sites and strengthen the capacity for the sound management of pesticides. Türkiye has
important role to increase awareness in drawing road map for sustainable pesticide lifecycle and Hazardous
Waste management

Objective
Regional Inception Workshop aims to create a mutual cooperation mechanism among countries and plan
future roads map together with the country's representatives on lifecycle management of pesticides and
disposal of POPs pesticides.

Expected outputs

  • Central Asian countries and Turkey strengthened their knowledge on lifecycle management of pesticides
  • and disposal of POPs pesticides.
  • Created clear direction and roadmap for regional collaboration.
