Background: FAO, through its regional office for Europe and Central Asia and in collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) launched in November 2019 the Central Asia Animal Health Network (CAAHN).

Regional animal health networks offer a framework for building strong technical capacity, competency, leadership and a critical mass of regionally networked specialists. The Central Asian Animal Health Network (CAAHN) will join forces to: 1) facilitate information exchange and experience; 2) standardize laboratory, field prevention/control, operating, communication and other procedures; 3) harmonize policies and approaches in accordance with international standards; 4) identify gaps, weaknesses and priorities; and 5) fulfill these gaps, e.g. by providing training, capacity building. Perhaps most importantly, CAAHN is meant to act as an umbrella to streamline, coordinate and avoid overlapping of all initiatives and projects (by international agencies and countries) related to animal health and One Health in Central Asia.
