Western Balkans regional workshop on Green Climate Fund Readiness in Skopje

The event is organized by FAO in partnership with the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in charge of Economic Affairs, as National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness, share experiences and information, and build capacities of relevant stakeholders in the country, including national government institutions, to utilize the opportunities of the Green Climate Fund.

More than 80 people, including representatives from the national government, relevant Ministries, national institutions and international organizations as FAO, GCF Secretariat, UNEP, as well as NDAs and UN resident coordinators from the Western Balkan countries are expected to attend and share relevant experiences on issues related to climate change and the GCF.

Objectives:

  • To raise awareness and to support the NDA and relevant stakeholders with information for engaging with the Green Climate Fund;
  • To start the engagement and facilitation of the process of national stakeholders’ coordination, communication, and information sharing;
  • To identify and share good practices and knowledge for working with the Green Climate Fund.

Expected outcomes/outputs:

  • Raised capacity and understanding on the GCF and the national readiness which need to be undertaken to allow engagement with the fund;
  • A three years action plan to elaborate on national activities which could lead to opportunities with the GCF;
  • Identified areas of collaboration between Western Balkan countries on issues related to climate change and the GCF;
  • List of national institutions/organizations willing to be accredited entities.
