Workshop on sharing experiences on cattle breeding activities among smallholders

In developing countries, ,livestock production represents an important part of the agricultural sector with a great role to sustainable farming. Besides being an important food source, livestock can also provide income, energy, and fertilizer, as well as employment, and can be useful in weed control and utilization of marginal lands. With appropriate development activities, the productivity of the sector can be increased, and its adaptability to diverse and changing production environments can be improved. Furthermore, well designed development programs of local breeds can also contribute to preserving genetic diversity of ecosystems that is a prerequisite for sustainable production..

In order to facilitate implementation of successful activities on cattle breeding in Europe and Central Asia, FAO, with the support of the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, is organizing a workshop on sharing experiences on cattle breeding activities among smallholders. The objective of the workshop is to bring together experts and sector representatives to share knowledge, skills, and successful initiatives on this field, with a particular emphasis on cattle production
