Annual meeting of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Europe and Central Asia 2024

Skopje (North Macedonia), 04/06/2024 - 06/06/2024

FAO and the Regional Centre for Forestry and Rural Development (REFORD) are hosting the annual international meeting of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Europe and Central Asia (REUFIS).

This year's focus is on invasive species in urban forest planning, exploring how urban greening can facilitate their spread. The meeting gathers over 60 participants from 15 countries, including the Balkan Cities Network (B40).

The three-day event features panel discussions and country presentations on urban tree species, forest health challenges, and management strategies for invasive species. Field visits in Skopje will showcase anti-erosive urban landscaping techniques and diverse ecological conditions.

The annual gathering concludes with a meeting of the REUFIS focal point members to discuss updates on forest invasive species, management challenges in member countries, and the REUFIS 2024-2025 work plan.
