Nigerian delegation to visit Türkiye for agricultural development project

Ankara (Türkiye), 29/07/2024 - 03/08/2024

A delegation from Nigeria will visit Ankara, Türkiye, as part of the project "Support to the Diversification and Sustainable Crop Production Intensification for Smallholder Farmers in the Drylands of Borno State." This initiative is part of the FAO–Türkiye Partnership Programmes.

During their visit, the delegation will tour relevant public institutions in Ankara and visit agricultural fields around the city, as well as in Bolu and Haymana.

Agriculture is a cornerstone of Nigeria's national economy, with over 65 percent of the population directly or indirectly relying on it for their livelihoods. Notably, women and youth comprise 50–70 percent of the sector's economically active population.
FAO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and the Nigerian government, is supporting the capacity development of farmers and institutions. The goal is to promote sustainable crop production management techniques, thereby enhancing the agricultural sector's sustainability and productivity.
