Regional technical meeting on food systems based dietary guidelines development

The FAO regional technical meeting, co-organized with CAPNUTRA (Capacity Development Network in Nutrition in Central and Eastern Europe) will focus on food system-based dietary guidelines in Europe and Central Asia from 7 to 9 November 2023, in Belgrade, Serbia. The event will assess the progress and challenges of food system-based dietary guidelines in the region in light of the regional project "Enhancing analytical evidence on diet and nutrition challenges from food systems perspectives in response to the COVID-19" that is concluding with the regional meeting.
During the project, beneficiary countries undertook a range of activities including two national workshops to develop food system-based dietary guidelines, covering stakeholder mapping, data analysis, task team creation, and action plan development.
The main objective of the regional technical meeting is to present results of applying the FAO methodology for the development of food system-based dietary guidelines in Kyrgyzstan, Montenegro, and Serbia, with a focus on the situation analysis and evidence review report. Capacity development needs and opportunities for ongoing guideline development will also be discussed. Additionally, food system assessments in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will be shared to enhance collaborative learning among countries.
