Third One Health National Forum

Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), 28/08/2024 - 29/08/2024

The Third One Health National Forum, which is part of the FAO Project "Enhancing the One Health approach in Kyrgyzstan and its capacity to control zoonotic diseases," is set to build on the progress made in the previous two forums held in April and June 2024. The workshop will continue to strengthen collaboration and coordination between the human health, animal health, and environmental sectors, including wildlife, at both national and provincial levels.

The focus will be on improving mechanisms for the prevention, detection, assessment, and response to priority zoonoses. Participants of the forum will review the outcomes of earlier evaluations on coordinated surveillance and propose new legal regulations that involve the Ministry of Ecology and Emergency Situations in epidemiological surveillance. Additionally, draft guidelines for investigating zoonotic disease outbreaks will be discussed, alongside a strategic plan for enhancing coordinated zoonosis surveillance. This plan aligns with the Secretariat of the Coordination Council under the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

The forum represents a vital step towards bolstering the health system, protecting public health, and ensuring the health of animals and the biosphere. As a platform for exchanging experiences and developing joint strategies, the third One Health National Forum aims to create a resilient system capable of promptly responding to zoonotic disease risks, thereby minimizing their impact on society and the economy. With the insights and expertise gained from the previous forums, this event will pave the way for more effective solutions in coordinated epidemiological surveillance.
