World Food Safety Day (7 June) aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks. The United Nations established World Food Safety Day in 2018 to raise awareness of food safety. Year after year, there are a growing number of initiatives around World Food Safety Day that help increase public awareness on food safety.

FAO project entitled "Enhancing capacities for food safety management in the fruit and vegetable industry of the Kyrgyz Republic" funded by the Standard Trade Development Facility aims to support the development of food processing sector by technical capacity building on the food safety practices at farm and processing levels, in line with the international recommendations and market requirements.

This year, FAO in partnership with Kyrgyz Economic University is organizing a workshop on the theme “Food safety: prepare for the unexpected” with a special focus on fruit and vegetable products. Food business, trade, academia and competent authorities will be invited to raise awareness on food safety issues and how each of us can contribute.

The meeting aims to raise awareness about food safety among general audience and promotion of how everyone can take a part; and to discuss the issues and future perspectives in the field of ensuring the safety of food products.
