Editable leaflets and posters to allow quick awareness against priority transboundary animal diseases

In an effort to improve the capacity of countries to promptly react to fast-moving transboundary animal diseases, the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has developed a series of awareness materials in different languages on priority diseases of the region. Three type of materials have been produced so far: leaflets, posters and videos.

Leaflets and posters have been developed in a fully editable format (PowerPoint) that allows veterinary services and other institutions to quickly adapt, translate, add logos, change pictures, etc. when faced with an animal health emergency. The materials are now available online in English, plus some other languages of the region. Additional languages and formats will be uploaded as they become available.

So far, materials have been developed for two major transboundary animal diseases:

Lumpy skin disease (LSD), a vector-borne cattle disease that has been spreading throughout the Balkans, Türkiye and the Russian Federation, as well as in endemic Africa. Leaflets are available in two versions: one addresses field veterinarians, and another one, less technical, for farmers. There are also Posters addressing farmers, and more recently, videos have also been developed.

African swine fever (ASF), possibly the most important swine disease these days, which is spreading rapidly all over Europe and Asia, as well as in endemic Africa. The leaflet comes in two versions, one Balkans-focused and the other Asia-focused. Within the same leaflet there is one section specific for people raising pigs, and another one for hunters who may encounter sick or dead wild boar. The text in red within the leaflets and posters highlights the bits of information that must be entered/edited so that they are tailored for the country/situation, e.g. telephone contact for reporting suspicions, official name of the veterinary services, or the different language versions of the relevant FAO reference manuals. Also the logos on the top right should be updated with those of the relevant institutions.
