This document contains the final version of the Report of the Seventh Session of the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL), held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, from 16 to 20 January 1995.

SUMMARY

This document presents the final report of the Seventh Session of the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL), held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, from 16 to 20 January 1995. The main subjects discussed by the Commission refer to: the use of biodiversity; socio-economic aspects of inland fisheries and aquaculture in Latin America; international guidelines relative to aquaculture; research priorities for the development of inland fisheries and aquaculture in the Region; preliminary analysis of legislation relative to inland fisheries in Latin America; a review of the structure and functions of the COPESCAL and fisheries management in reservoirs in Latin America. The list of participants and the updated list of National Correspondents of COPESCAL are included in this report as Appendixes A and D, respectively. A synthesis of the main conclusions and recommendations arising from the debates for the attention of FAO and/or Governments, is presented as Appendix E to this report.
