1. To treat the problems related to the marketing of inland fishery and aquaculture products as the main subject for the Fifth Session of the Working Party on Fisheries Technology (16).
2. Note the official ratification of the Government of Paraguay to hold the Fifth Session of the Working Party in Asunción in 1996 (16).
C. Report of the Sixty Session of the Working Party on Fishery Resources
To the attention of FAO
1. To consider the effects of pollution on the inland fishery resources in the Region as a priority topic for the Seventh Session of the Working Party on Fishery Resources (17).

1. To identify a group of experts to gather information and prepare technical documentation on the pollution of the aquatic environment, the effects of aquatic pollution on fishery resources and the control and management of fishery resources degradation problems (17).

1. To provide the Secretary with the names of qualified specialists who are interested in forming part of the group of experts; names and addresses of national institutions and experts that attend to environmental impact on fishery resources; sources of information, data banks, scientific cooperation networks related to the subject and the proposal of experts to be hired as consultants (19).

1. Note the concern that tilapia hybrids, such as red tilapia, could break down into their original species, resulting in the unintentional introduction of four new species (34).

1. Rigorously apply the Code of Practice for the Introduction of Exotic Species as approved by COPESCAL, in order to minimize the risks of aquatic species introductions and to add it to national legislations (35).

SUBJECT 5. SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF INLAND FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE IN LATIN AMERICA

1. To undertake the following activities, whose results should come together in the Commission's Working Parties (45):
to introduce the analysis of relevant questions relating to the economic and social aspects of inland fisheries and aquaculture to the agenda of the subsequent sessions of the Commission and its subsidiary bodies;
to identify economists, sociologists, anthropologists and other related specialists, with experience in the analysis of inland fisheries and aquaculture in the countries of the Region;
to study the consequences of the increased foreign and local demand for fish on the economic and social aspects of inland fisheries and aquaculture in selected countries of Latin America;
to study the commonly used marketing systems for fisheries and aquaculture products in selected countries of Latin America and to define the focus of a pilot project;
to undertake case studies in selected countries about the difficulties of applying regulations in uncertain legal systems where shared fisheries resources are affected, identifying possible technical solutions;
