I am writing to you on behalf of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), an institution oriented towards applied research and innovation with a focus on Africa. The University is engaged in economic and human development and puts research and innovation at the forefront of African development. More than just a traditional academic institution, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is a platform for experimentation, a breeding ground for opportunities. UM6P is a hub of knowledge dedicated to research, high-level education and innovation to support the development of the continent.
In 2022, UM6P organized an event for SIF_2022 on “Science & Innovation for African Agriculture: Advanced climate, plant, water, and soil research & innovation for sustainable intensification of African agriculture.” In preparation of the 2nd edition of the FAO Science and Innovation Forum, we are pleased to submit our case study “Al Moutmir No till farming program for a more resilient agriculture- Moroccan use case”. The objective of the Al Moutmir initiative is to significantly support and accelerate the nationwide adoption of this sustainable system as a key lever in the new agro-ecological transition model for agriculture in our country.
Al Moutmir No till program offers a customized and integrated support to farmers to accelerate the adoption of this system: soil analysis, provision of no till seeders, an integrated crop management program, capacity building programs and connection to market. Hosted and supported by UM6P, launched in 2018 by OCP Group, Al Moutmir mobilizes best in class research capabilities, technical expertise, financial and human resources. This initiative is driven by passionate young agricultural engineers, men and women, who are committed to rural development, knowledge dissemination, and capacity building for farmers.
