A study on the impact of biofuels on food security in sub-Saharan Africa, Guidelines for food security for the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials sustainability certification system, the impact of FTAs on preferential commodity trade agreements and managing the AgriDiet project.
Also lecturing in food economics and international development, focussing on food policy, agri-food market information and food security. Current research focus is the impact of biofuels on food security, plus market information systems and services.
From a dairy farming background I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading, before joining the UK Home-Grown Cereal Authority (HGCA now part of AHDB) as an Economist, then Chief Economist and then Director of Marketing & Economics leading a team of 12 economists and statisticians delivering a market intelligence service to the agri-food sector, including growers, traders, processors, retailers and shipping companies, as well as independent advice on markets and policy to UK government, including House of Commons and Lords Select Committees. After three 3-year terms as Director at HGCA, I worked as an Agri-food Marketing and Policy Consultant, leading projects funded by the European Commission, World Bank, UN, OACP and Commonwealth Secretariat, plus various governments, research institutes, trade associations and private companies. I have been lecturing and researching part time at University College Cork, Ireland and Mekelle and Hawassa Universities, Ethiopia over the past 20 years and more recently became Director of the MSc Programme in Food Security Policy and Management. My research includes: sustainable food system transformation, climate change issues for the agri-food sector, new food economics (including doughnut economics), circular economy (including zero waste), agri-food trade agreements, agri-food policy coherence, sustainability actions at community level, measuring food and nutrition security, corporate responsibility and sustainability, agri-food market and policy intelligence systems and implementing the SDGs, particularly the Zero Hunger SDG2.

Congratulations to the SOFA team on this excellent report
This is a much-needed report to help kick-start and speed up the process of food system transformation.
The assessment of externalities throughout our food system is a vital exercise in helping to identify priority implementation measures to effect the necessary changes. It will also be a valuable resource to add to the teaching of externalities in our food economics classes.
Please find attached a report providing some brief feedback on the report and answers to some of the questions listed on the template form,
best regards
