Calls for submissions
Calls for submissions are open invitations for well-structured feedback. Participants are asked to complete a template form that provides guidance for the preparation of the contribution. Calls for submissions allow participants to share their experiences, best practices and recommendations on a specific theme and to learn from others, while they also enable facilitators to analyse case studies in a well-documented and comprehensive manner. Participants’ input feeds into stocktaking and monitoring and evaluation exercises undertaken by FAO or external partners, providing them with valuable information and insight for further action. Calls for submissions usually remain online for several months to allow participants to share complete and insightful contributions. The submissions are compiled in a proceedings document, and the most interesting cases are included in technical reports.
Community engagement for inclusive rural transformation and gender equality

This call is organized by the FAO’s Office of Innovation in the context of engaging various stakeholders to deepen an understanding of the potential pathways of the agrifood system transformation at regional level. The submission findings will contribute to the full foresight report, based on the synthesis report “Harvesting change: Harnessing emerging technologies and innovations for agrifood system transformation”, that will be featured during FAO’s multistakeholder workshop "FutureFood-I Lab in action: Cultivating Innovation for Agrifood Systems’ Transformation" (June 2024, Italy).

How can the hidden costs and benefits of agrifood systems be effectively incorporated into decision-making for transformation?
The 2023 edition of FAO’s flagship publication “The State of Food and Agriculture 2023” (SOFA 2023) has the theme “Revealing the true cost of food to transform agrifood systems”. The report presents the results of national-level true cost accounting (TCA) assessments for 154 countries. The SOFA 2024 will showcase the flexibility of TCA in its application to different scopes, from an entire agrifood system down to a single product. The aim of this call is to collect relevant inputs, key messages, and country level case studies to contribute to the writing process of SOFA 2024 (to be published in November 2024).
