Plastics in agriculture
Lev Neretin, Workstream Lead for the Environment at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He manages a team of over 30 professionals responsible for compliance with environmental and social safeguards, UN-to-UN environmental partnerships, sustainable bioeconomy, and management of productive ecosystems. He has over 20 years of experience in sustainability science, policy-making and management, including prior work for UNEP, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and UNDP. Before joining FAO, he served in Japan and the Republic of Korea as a Senior Coordinator of the Northwest Pacific Action Plan. From 2008 until 2016, he was with the GEF’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel providing science and technology advice to GEF’s projects, programs and operations. Earlier he served as UNEP-GEF Task Manager for the Russian Federation and Central Asia region and UNDP Biodiversity Expert, working on transboundary water and pollution issues, the Arctic, and marine biodiversity conservation. He held research positions at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in Germany in 1997-2004. Mr. Neretin, national of the Russian Federation and Germany, has PhD in Oceanography from the Russian Academy of Sciences and MA in International Affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all those who have contributed to the consultation towards the development of a Voluntary Code of Conduct on the sustainable use of plastics in agriculture.
We received a total of 107 contributions from 49 countries, originating from a wide range of experts from national governments, academia, private sector and civil society. These diverse and insightful contributions will play a pivotal role in guiding FAO as we embark on crafting the initial draft of the Voluntary Code of Conduct.
