    • Farmers interest groups are the basic unit by which Farmers producer organization is to be formed in regional level for effective value chain management to ensure quality farm produce. This is the only way by small and marginal farmers can market their farm produce with good quality.  By this way grading of farm produces based on the quality is possible by small farmers.

More over location specific varieties of the crop to be cultivated and to be marketed in the region itself. So that the quality of farm produce can not be degraded. Value chain management is easier for small farmers when they clubbed together to market their various farm produce.

    • In our country honey is considered as one of the nutrition supplement to regular diet. Moreover honey is here affordable and available throughout the year. Bee keeping prospects are more in this region provided proper guidance an training is to be given. To create sustainable condtion in this field Farmers producers organisation is one of the innovative idea to be focussed. With this back round there is a possibility of cluster approach of rearing bee hives in garden land condtion is much more.Even crop specific honey production in this region is new trend here. eg. Beehive rearing in drumstick fields yields certain type of honey which is having some nutritive advantages over normal honey. Farmers fetch higher profit from this type of crop specific bee hive rearing. Finally there is a vast scope in this field to be focussed and to be studied.

    • Climate change and its impact in Food security is one of the broad topic discussed over worldwide recently. The impact of this on cultivation of crops is to be ascertained in region wise. The variation of impact is to be calculated tropical, subtropical and temperate regions separately.

The sub-tropical region like India the climate change and impact in cultivation of different crops are widely noticed. In Southern India esp. setting of North east monsoon differ year to year and this intern affect the crop selection and cultivation.

Various field observation noticed that the delay in monsoon affect the crop performance in terms of yield also. Even fifteen delays delay in monsoon setting and in turn delay in time of sowing affect yield in Pulses, watermelon and other veg. drastically.

Conclusion: Region wise study is needed in each and every cultivable crop for their performance based on climate change.

    • I want to share with the forum about perimeter vegetables cultivation by Farmers interest groups in our area. CASE STUDY . Perimeter horticulture plays a vital role in food security to some extent. The lands in around town is the base for this cultivation. In India in the state of Tamil Nadu Tuticorin is one of Dist, capital slowly shifted to industrialisation. In this mean time the villagers around this town earn their income by cultivating horti. Crops and marketing their marketable surplus to this town. In this context 15 no. Farmers interest groups were formed by horticulture department. The main objective of this FIGs integrating farmers to adopt new technology, and using of hybrids to maximize the yield.

Integrating the famers to market their produce to nearby town at reasonable price without middleman. For which Greenveg. outlet have been started by coperative dept. The produce obtained from these FIGs are sold here. The urban people getting good quality vegetable with less price. Thus perimeter veg. cultivation and marketing in urban area increases the food security in sustainable manner.

    • Dear sir,

I have read the zero draft on principles of responsible Agriculture investment.

       1. Are all relevant issues and areas related to fostering responsible agricultural investments adequately addressed in the Zero Draft? If not, what should be changed?

In this topic I want to include some of the areas related to fostering responsible Agriculture investment.

      1. The government organisation, or private public participation mode the investment should be focussed in the area of irrigated Agriculture. Investment towards the development of irrigation facilities, water harvesting technologies, Drip, sprinkler irrigation, and improved agroniomic practices are to be given primary importance.

      2.  Either Private sector.or ppp mode more investment are needed in the area of certified seed production which will pave the way for better production in this crop  and sustainable income for Agriculture investment.

      3. More investment should be added in formation of cold storage, supply chain management, retail marketing, door to door  supply of farm products and value added service.

4.Future market in agriculture commodity (on line market) should be strictly prohibited for sustainable Agriculture investment.

    • Now a days the availability of nutritional food is scanty and not easily available at the doorsteps of domestic consumers. In order to bridge the gap between production and availability of food the private sector participation is unavoidable one.

many products are there for eg. Mushroom consumption is now a days increasing day by day. The private sector participation in production and marketing is to be engouraged. Mushroom cultivation and processing has been carriedout by many small industries and corporate companies. The technology adopted to value add this product well known by private companies. Economic development of one nation is not restricted with food production itself but making  available nutitious food to all people without any loss in quantity and quality. For this Public and private partnership mode is essential.

    • Success story

Moringa (Drum stick) Moringa  oleifera  cultivation  and consumption of various Parts  of this crop like leaves and pods,  enhances the nutritional status of human being. The following nutrients are present in this crop.

      • Moringa leaves are having 40% of protein with all the nine essential amino acids.
      • The amount of Beta carotene , vitamin C and vitamin E found in moringa exceed those amounts commonly found in other  plant parts.
      • Beta carotene (Pro vitamin A) moringa  leaves contain beta carotene than carrots about 3 to 5 times are more. Vit.A is the most important vitamin for immune protection against heart disease and keep  harmfull  lipoprotein containing chloestrol from damaging heart.
      • Vitamin C Just one ounce of Moringa leaves contains the daily recommended  amountof Vitamin C.
      • Vitamin E is a potent anti oxidant that helps prevent premature ageing and degenerative disease including heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and cancer.
      • Vitamin B1 is the vital for production of energy in each cells and it plays essential role in the development of carbohydrates.
      • Vitamin B2 (Ribo flavin) also present in moringa leaves.

Based on the above reasons In South parts of Tamil Nadu  in India, Farmers are interesting in cultivation of this crop. In Tuticorin DT. Of Tamil Nadu state  in India the Teri land (Red soil with moderate water holding capacity) farmers raising this crop to the extent of more than 2000 ha.

In this crop cultivation recent trend is instead of growing perennial Moringa these farmers are preferred new varieties of Annual moringa varieties like   PKM1 PKM2,which are having 18 months life period. The propagation of this crop by seeds , these seeds were sown in polythene bags  and after 20 to 25 days the seedlings were transplanted in main field.

Farmers are using Drip irrigation with fertigation to get high yield from this crop. The productivity of this crop up to 7.5 tonnes/Ha. and  1250 kgs   of leaves are gathered from this crop per  tree per year.

In south Indian food esp. in Tamil Nadu state the leaves, and pods are widely used for culinary purpose. The moringa pods are now exported to other state. Now these farmers trying to make powder from these leaves of this crop, which has enormous export value and  help full  for reducing  malnutrition.

Sustainability of growing of this crop only based on the nutritive value and food system followed by these people.
