I am leading a programme establishing frameworks for the estimation of the economic burden of animal diseases at global, country and local levels. The economic burden estimation include losses in production due to mortality and morbidity due to disease and the expenditure in animal healthcare and infrastructure. The global estimations will be structured in a similar manner to the human health burden studies, our country case studies are more detailed looking at farm level efficiency shifts due to the presence of animal diseases and the market shifts.
