Dear Colleagues,
My comment refers to the question two what are the barriers and opportunities for the policy maker to contribute to sustainable to agri-food system and it compliment agri-food system in food produced by rural women who had burden work load (they spend long time) in collecting water and wood for the food they prepare for their family.
In most rural areas in Near Esat , North Africa, in which IFAD, FAO and others United Nations organizations and development projects operate women and girls perform field and domestic work, which includes collecting water and fuel, preparing food for the family in all stages of food production, preparation and cooking, and providing care for all family members, which are hard operations and they do not have access to basic services, as they fetch water and firewood from long distances. In order to provide food and food security, the organizations and projects should work first in providing basic services to the rural population mainly small farmers in traditional rain-fed sector, especially women and girls, to ensure the presence of healthy and clean water( water safety and hygiene ). that contributes to proper nutrition in several aspects: Therefore women become capable of absorbing all the counseling and educational processes, and they have the ability to play their role with desire and full interest after reducing effort and saving energy, and they are ready to receive various awareness programs.
I am working with IAMDP project funded by IFAD .
