In the South of the Yuacatan state, in Mexico, I have witnessed that, since forests and cattle act as bank savings for forest and agricultural populations, in need of severe health care, they tend to sell their plot of forests to more capitalized cattle ranchers.
Therefore, in the lack of a healthcare and social protection system, health problems indirectly provoke deforestation, when farmers are obliged to sell plots of forests in order to be able to carry with hospitalization costs.
