Reintroduction of Cannabis hemp, a non-invasive pioneer plant, offers a biogenic alternative to the destruction of forests to make fiber products such as paper and building materials. At the same time, from the same harvest, essential nutrition from the seeds of the Cannabis plant is critically important, providing edestin and albumin proteins, essential fatty acids and essential amino acids.

Proper forestry management would benefit from hemp used as a soil builder and erosion control tool, as a successional pioneer species, for expanding forest ecosystems. Wildlife are attracted to hemp seed nutrition and cover as well, helping to develop biodiversity and habitat enrichment.

Finally, the atmospheric terpenes produced by hemp serve as cloud condensation nuclei, forming bright and persistent clouds, producing rain.

Any forest management plan that fails to consider the many unique and essential benefits of hemp would be incomplete. Evolution favors an open mind. It is time to reintroduce open dialogue and consideration of Cannabis for all of the environmental services it provides.
