Dr Emadi is former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to UN Rome Based Agencies (FAO, WFP, IFAD). He is  Agricultural systems scientist with 41 years of experience in agricultural, rural development and food systems. He has worked mainly in Iran, Afghanistan, Middle East, China, south East Asia and Central Asia on projects related to agricultural policy, productivity and development. He is experienced in policy formulation for Agriculture development and food security. He received his PhD in Systems Agriculture (UWS, Australia, 1995) then served in research centers and universities as lecturer, researcher and research manager. He served in different level of public work, and appointed as Deputy Minister since 1996 in Ministry of Agriculture, and Rural Development until 2005 in Iran. He introduced innovative system of Agricultural Knowledge and Information System (AKIS) in Iran during his term of service and engaged farmer organizations and private sector in the process of agricultural technology development in Iran.  Since 2005 he left Iran and started working in post conflict Afghanistan and played major role in policy formulation as Senior Policy Advisor to Ministers (Ministry of Rural Development and Rehabilitation, MRRD and Ministry of Agriculture, MAIL). He established Afghanistan Institute of Rural Development (AIRD)and was engaged with wide range of national projects and organizations (UNDP, APO, CIFOR, ICIMOD and FAO) till 2013. He was Senior Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture in Iran (2013) in the area of agricultural technology development and innovation and then he appointed as Ambassador  to FAO, WFP and IFAD in Rome since 2017. During that period he was elected  as Chairman of COAG and Vice Chair of Programm committee in FAO.

Dr. Emadi retired from public work since Sept 2020 and is University Professor (part time in Iran and China), consultant on National Food Security and member of National Biodiversity Council.  He awarded APO Medal in 2004 for his contributions on agricultural productivity in Iran. He is author of 15 books &book chapters and 52 papers and articles in the field of agriculture development and food security.
