Joint Briefing: The important role of agrifood systems across the Rio Convention Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)

9 October 2024 at 15:30 – 16:45 CEST / 9:30 – 10:45 EDT
Building H, Room H-542, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland and Online

You are cordially invited to a high-level briefing by FAO on the critical role of agrifood systems in addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. Jointly organized by the FAO Liaison Offices in Brussels, Geneva and New York, together with the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) and the Land and Water Division (NSL), this briefing will provide an opportunity for key stakeholders, including representatives of the Rio Convention Conferences of the Parties (CBD, UNFCCC, and UNCCD), to discuss the importance of agrifood systems in achieving global environmental goals.

This briefing aims to:

  1. Highlight the role of agrifood sectors in the upcoming CBD COP16, UNFCCC COP29, and UNCCD COP16;
  2. Explore how FAO can assist Members in achieving their national biodiversity, climate, and land degradation targets; and
  3. Provide a platform for the COP Presidencies and other key stakeholders to share their perspectives on the contribution of agrifood systems to the conference agendas and their priorities for action.

A detailed agenda will follow in the upcoming days.
