Building Emergency and Resilience partnerships

07/02/2022

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) play a critical role in the fight against hunger given their technical expertise, their proximity to and representation of the hungry and poor, and their increasing presence in the field. FAO works to increase and strengthen its partnerships with CSOs to join efforts and exchange of knowledge and capacity on a variety of issues related to food security.

In January, the FAO in Geneva Director and his team met with Mr Gareth Price-Jones, Executive Secretary of the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Response (SCHP), a voluntary alliance of nine of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations present in 192 countries, to learn more on SCHP priorities for 2022 and exchange views on areas of common interest for potential collaboration in the year ahead.

Mr Burgeon also provided a brief overview of FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031 and its two Priority Programme Areas on “Agriculture and Food emergencies” and “Resilient agri-food systems”, with a target of reaching60 million people by the end of 2023, in line with the Director General’s strong commitment to have FAO actively engaged in humanitarian responses.
