FAO in Geneva launches new Dialogue Series on Agroecology

23/06/2022

Agroecology and its principles are increasingly recognized as a promising pathway for providing sustainable solutions to the issues of food security and nutrition, the fight against poverty and social inequalities, the adaptation to climate change, the preservation of biodiversity and natural resources, and the fight against zoonotic diseases.

In partnership with the Plant Production and Protection division (NSP), Biovision and the UNFSS Agroecology Coalition, FAO LOG has developed the FAO in Geneva Agroecology Dialogue Series to explore this issue and promote it within the International Geneva and beyond.

The first session of the Agroecology Dialogue Series was organized on 23 June 2022 to explore how the interface between agroecology and territorial approaches can contribute to food systems transformation. Further, participants analysed the pathways needed for public policies, research initiatives, investment mechanisms, and advocacy to support agroecological transitions at territorial scales.

FAO Deputy Director-General Beth Bechdol participated from Rome in this first Dialogue and said in here opening remarks: “Sustainable food system transformation can only be achieved by strengthening the nexus between food, agriculture, environment, health, biodiversity and development. Moving from incremental and siloed models, FAO is adopting a systems approach where agroecology can provide a platform for innovation that links priority areas across FAO.”

We are looking forward to more sessions of the Agroecology Dialogue series and hope you will join the next installments in great numbers.
